Moving On and Out and Starting Something Somewhere Else

And 2009 is finally over, was it a weird year for you too?

With the welcoming of 2010, I have left my employers and new friends in CA, and have moved to Austin, TX.  A better opportunity had presented itself to me in the time of searching, and I couldn’t resist, in fact, an overwhelming sense of purpose led me to my move, and keeps me excited and enthusiastic about the future of my being, and the future of my work.

To all of those at Impulse One and 15 Rose, I hope for the best, and know you will do well with what you’re trying to do, and I am always available for help if you ever need it.

Stay tuned for more, now reporting from Austin, TX, in the year 2010…and beyond.

Venice Skate Park Opening Day

Venice Skate Park Opening Day

Dogtown now has a new park, and it is siiiiick. Opening day was a madhouse, but it was awesome to see how much this place meant to all the skaters in the area, they really respected the place and each other. It’s comforting to see how well people thrive when placed in an environment where they can be themselves without judgment from society, I guess that’s just the way all of Venice is.

A Few Art Wall Panoramas

Art Wall 1 Detail

One of the things that I consistently enjoy about living here in Venice is the art that is living around me. And one of the most dynamic and evolving pieces is the Venice Art Walls. These are a few panoramas I’ve put together, and I really liked how they turned out, photomerge in photoshop can easily put these together, for anyone wondering how to.

My New Cards, And How You Can DO IT YOURSELF!

When I ordered my latest pair of Pirate Sandals, Kevin threw in a few CardHippie business cards as well, and I thought it was an awesome idea when I saw it, after a little more searching, I found this helpful DIY thanks to Eco Etsy.  So I went about the following steps sand now have a fresh new recycled card, I feel good about using my trash for something useful, I have a hard time throwing anything away, so it helps if I can make use of some of the things I keep around.

Step 1: Make Design

businesscard
Obviously you need to start with you design, you want to remember that you’re making a stamp, so you can focus on clearer letters, thicker lines, making sure it’s a very clean and legible, because the stamp can leave a thick blob of ink on too fine of a design, smudging your design and leaving you upset.

Step 2: Order Stamp

Stamp

You can do your own research if you want, I went with Ideal 300 from Rubber Stamp Champ because for some reason or another I thought I needed a self inking stamp, upon receiving my stamp and making my first round of cards, I can say that I will order a HandStamp once this one dries up on me, the self inking is nice for doing a lot of cards at once, but its hard to control the precision of the stamp and how much ink is being transfered, also you can’t change the color of the ink.  So I would recommend going with a traditional hand stamp for something that will last longer, then again, if you plan on changing you card design every so often then it doesn’t really matter either way, order what you think is easiest for what you have in mind.

Step 3:Draw, Stamp, Cut

stamp, cut, copy

Draw your outlines, stamp within those outlines, and cut according to those outlines.

finished

You’re done, in 3 steps you have a never ending supply of business cards(as long as you have some form of thin cardboard material lying around).

Let me know how it works for you, and if you know any place I should be ordering my stamps from.

4th of July

Well, our 4th at the 15 was a blast, we started playing music and offering beer/food around 1pm, and ended up throwing a bash. We had neighbors, people from the street, and a few friends, Treeman even made an appearance for a short while. I only wish I took some more pictures, maybe it’s time I get that point and shoot I’ve been looking at, I need a camera in my pocket that isn’t a phone.

I started spinning around 6 and didn’t stop until midnight. I recorded a bit of the set, so feel free to download it.  Playing on the fly like that is always fun, but sometimes the mix isn’t that smooth, so sorry about any odd transitions. All in all it was a pretty great time. Thanks to everyone for stopping by and making the day so enjoyable.

Dave Chihuly is an amazing glass artist, please click through to this website to see just how amazing his work really is. We were at a showcase of his work at the Desert Botanical Gardens, and I snapped a few pics, as someone on the forums said, he did all the hard work of making them look cool, I just was able to take a few pictures of them.

Inauguration Day

Inauguration Mix

That was a fun morning on twitter, facebook, cnn.com, current, pretty much everywhere had something related to the inauguration.  Directv did the same thing that they did for the election night, allowing me to watch 8 channels at once!! changasm. But of course my favorite coverage comes from current, who always tries to make twitter more useful, and when the only commentary is coming from twitter, it’s a little easier to take then some talking heads telling me how historic I should be feeling right now.

Good luck President-elect Obama, I’m happy to see you’ve inspired a generation, lets see what you do with that inspration, and where you take it.

YES WE CAN!

All the ducks are standing in the snow

shaking off

While in Big Bear after the wonderful NYE party we were walking around Big Bear Lake when we came across a flock of ducks standing in the snow.  While we stood there staring at them, they started walking towards us, and then surrounded us, we soon found ourselves in the middle of all these ducks just trying to find any water and probably hoping we would feed them, like most of the other humans they encounter.  I’ve thrown up the new pictures on my flickr and I’m trying to figure out one of these wordpress plugins so I can just show the photosets on this site…

edit: well I haven’t gotten the flickr manager to work exactley the way I want it, but it kind of works for now, I did get distracted enough to update the css, now I can read everything much better…

edit 2: Trent, the author of the flickr manager plugin, helped me out, and now there’s photo galleries on the site. yay! I’m so motivated by this new wordpress backend that I may make a few more posts tonight to keep playing with this plugin.

2009 List of things to do(resolutions)

I sat here typing up a list for a few minutes trying to figure out what to make of ’09 resolutions, and basically all I was trying to say was that I want to take what I’m doing now and make it better…and to get in shape…yea…I want to get in shape too…

My last years resolution was to actually learn and progress from my mistakes, instead of making the same mistakes several times.  It came out of a desire to change the way I was treating certain people in my life, and how I was treating myself.  Honestly I plan to continue doing this, as learning is much more engaging than simply mucking up everything for anyone who happens to pass your path.  I also took one from a friend last year, which was to be more appreciative of those who affect you.  And this proved to help tremendously throughout the year, and is another I will always continue to do as long as I am appreciative of the things that are affecting me.

I actually had a really fun 08, met a lot of great people, some who are now part of my life entirely, and I continued to practice my hobbies and help in my job in the only ways that they’ll let me.  So all in all it was a pretty great year, besides the whole economy thing, but I don’t own any stocks and have no debts outstanding, so I never really felt the pressure from that.

2009 should be another interesting year of changes and progression, our lease ends in May, and our new home will need to be finalized, but optimism is surprisingly high, even from me.

So what’s my list of resolutions look like?

  1. Learn from life
  2. Appreciate your surroundings
  3. Get in shape (I mean it this year! ya!)
  4. Update scohoe consistently

I’m serious about that last one, I’ll do it this year, it feels different this year, like I actually am going to mean it.  This site has been a work in progress for well over 4 years now, and maybe I should just start utilizing it instead of changing the theme again.   Well, hope everyone else has a fine ’09, coming off of a great ’08…. hah.

The San Diego Zoo

elephant eye

I upped a very small set from the San Diego zoo to flickr, it’s one of those places that you can’t really capture with a camera, you can only really experience it yourself.  I still tried to take a few, because it’s still worth a shot, and you get some good pics and what you can capture.
